Do you ever have those days that everything seems to pile up and you can’t see over the stack of “to-dos and to-don’ts”? In the process of moving, buying a new business, homeschooling, and attending college online, there are days that the to-do’s seem endless and the accomplishments seem minimal. I admit that I am one of those people that make a list part way through the day, just so I can mark off the things I already did. I also admit that checking off the things on the list quickly becomes a priority over people. Who doesn’t want to feel accomplished? Who does not want to feel like they are calmly paddling through life enjoying the peace. In reality, our days and lives often look more like the stormy and turbulent days.
At what point in life do we start looking at the peace and calm as the only beautiful thing? When I look at both of these pictures, I am actually drawn to the stormy wild picture more than the peaceful one. There is a power in the storminess that draws you in. Why is it that we are afraid of the power of the stormy days?
Do you feel successful only if everything in life is going the way you want it to?
Do you feel like the only way to feel accomplished is to feel peaceful?
Do you compare your level of success with someone else’s perceived level of success and feel validated in the comparison?
For me, it is a control issue. I can control the calm. To control the storm takes someone bigger than me. I know I have that someone bigger than me available to me every moment of every day. Why do I shy away from calling 1-800-NEED GOD? Probably because that would mean that I can’t handle everything myself and somehow I equate handling everything myself with success.
